Meet the Young Professionals Leading the CI Student Days 2025 Program

Ian McKane, E.I.T.

Ian McKane is currently a Civil Engineer with the Philadelphia Water Department working in the role of a Construction Project Engineer and Contract Administrator for drinking water treatment and water resources construction projects. Currently, Ian is managing a project that includes the replacement of a spillway for a high hazard dam in the city.  The project also includes the construction of a canal intake structure, and the preservation of a historic lock and gatehouse structure.  In the past Ian has managed and inspected construction projects at Philadelphia’s largest drinking water treatment plant.

Recently, Ian graduated from Villanova University with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering. While at Villanova, Ian worked as a Graduate Research Assistant studying temporal trends in sediment and nutrient transport in rain gardens. Ian also earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Rowan University. As a student at Rowan, Ian became involved with the Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Ian competed in the Construction Institute Student Days Competition in 2017. Ian is the Chair of the ASCE Construction Institute Young Professionals Council and serves 1-year term as the Governor on the CI BOG.

Hanna Hoffman

Hanna Hoffman, currently employed as an instructor at Oregon State University. Simultaneously, pursuing her Ph.D. in Engineering Education, brings a wealth of experience to the table. Her professional journey includes significant roles as a full-time field engineer and college intern with Kiewit. Hanna holds a master's degree in engineering management with a construction focus and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, both earned at Saint Martin’s University.

During her time at Saint Martin’s University, Hanna was an active member of the ASCE student chapter. She contributed to various student symposiums and took on the role of host school conference coordinator in 2019. Holding positions such as president and other offices within her chapter, Hanna also participated in the 2019 Student Days program. Her commitment to ASCE continues, evident in her involvement in hosting the 2023 Student Days program and serving as a young professional (YP) mentor during the competition. Furthermore, Hanna is a member of the Construction Institute and holds the position of Vice-Chair on YPC. She eagerly anticipates fostering connections with students through a competitive and realistic construction estimating competition at Student Days in Chicago this year.

Yishan Guan, LEED AP, BD+C

Yishan Guan is currently a Deputy Project Manager at AECOM in New York City. In this role, Yishan is responsible for preparing budgets and forecasts on key financial metrics and monitoring operational and financial performance for AECOM’s PM/CM services projects. Previously, Yishan worked as a Project Engineer at Venture General Contracting in Seattle, WA, where she coordinated with subcontractors, managed RFIs/Submittals, and facilitated the final close-out of multi-family, commercial, and life science projects.

Yishan graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s in Construction Management and Columbia University with a Master’s in Civil Engineering. She participated in CI Student Days in 2023 and has been involved with the ASCE Construction Institute Young Professionals Committee since. She looks forward to contributing to the planning and organization of the event and connecting with everyone.

Alexander Moreno

Alex is a field engineer with Stacy Witbeck where he recently wrapped up work on TriMet's A Better Red project in Portland, Oregon, and moved to Baltimore, Maryland, to begin work on Amtrak's Frederick Douglass Tunnel. He joined the company in 2022 as an intern after meeting with them at the Student Days. Alex graduated from Columbia University in 2023 with a B.S. Civil Engineering and in 2024 with an M.S. Construction Management, and was honored to receive the Campbell award. During college, Alex was deeply involved in the ASCE chapter on campus. He focused on providing members with improved resources and connections while supporting newer students in the program. He continues his involvement with ASCE through the YPC as well as the Government Relations branch.

Kayla King, E.I.T

Kayla King is a Field Engineer with KELLER, a specialty geotechnical contractor, where she plays a vital role in project planning, design implementation, quality assurance, documentation, and reporting. Based in Philadelphia, PA, Kayla is often found on job sites, with recent projects focusing on post-tensioned anchors and micropiles. In addition to her fieldwork, Kayla is actively involved in KWIC (KELLER Women In Construction), promoting diversity and inclusion within the construction industry. 

Kayla graduated from Rowan University with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a minor in Sustainable Built Environments. Her involvement with the ASCE began in her freshman year, during which she served as the Senate Chair and was later elected President for two years. In 2023, she attended CI Student Days immediately after graduating. Passionate about mentoring women in STEM, Kayla strives to help students network, learn new skills, and grow professionally within the engineering community. She is excited to meet new individuals interested in the construction and engineering industry! 

Jason Duque, E.I.T. 

Having joined his university's student chapter in 2020, he participated in ASCE CI Student Days 2021 and attended the 2022 ASCI CI & CRC Joint Conference where he was fortunate enough to meet Student Days organizers in person. As such they all demonstrated the value of the ASCE CI YPC and received him with open arms as one of the newest members of the YPC. After having attended the YPC Retreat in 2023, he is proud to have joined everyone else as a fellow YP and help contribute to the development of future engineers and construction professionals.
